Preview Best Dressed Ball 2008

Rockwell Tent, July 4. Friday, one week after the original schedule at Embassy Super Bar (but then it was closed up). People in fashion outfits, mingle, chit chat and just having fun for the night. Got invited by Promod sponsor just to hang out and decided to bring a cam (of course!) to record the people that came.

Was on a slow start that night, failed to get a shot of the early birds that also went home early (Phem Barranda, Angel Aquino). Also missed most of the show since i went down to change lens from the 24-70 to a wider 17-40mm. These 1.6x crop body cameras really need wide angle lens to shoot anything in a tight crowd.

Canon 40D with 17-40mm and 580 Ex flash.

Wife's Starbucks Mug Collection

My wife was so happy her collection of Starbucks mug is growing. Friends and their friend from different places send her a local version of their Starbucks mug. Simple joys and quiet hobbies are what my wife likes.

She got so excited and asked me to photograph her collection so she can post it on her friendster site. I sent her the email on these shots and thought of posting them here also. Maybe there's a mug collector out there too.

Ever take notice of the mug designs in your local Starbucks?

Shot with 40D with off shoe 580 Ex flash. Either 100mm macro or 24-70mm lens. Tripod mounted, PP with PS for levels, crop, watermark and

Metrowear featuring FDAC@Rockwell, June 26, 2008 - NO FLASH

Tried out the no flash shooting of fashion show for a Metrowear show with only ISO400 and got decent results. Not as i would have preferred but it was good enough to think that shooting without flash is feasible under lighting by Director Jackie Aquino.

After this round, i go back to shooting Metrowear fashion show WITH Flash. This batch of photos show with no flash required some correction on the skintone and had a slight yellow cast on the skin even after PP. I remember that when i started to find the right setting for flash shooting in Fashion shows, the flash was the one that would provide an improved skintone, here the argument confirms it.

These are the 1st half of the Metrowear fashion show last Thursday at the Rockwell Tent. Very poor runway pattern with models coming out left or right i batches. I still prefer the single wide runway style.

Will post the other shots

Bravo Filipino GB5 Fashion Show with PS works

Practice run for merging several photos into one. Kinda looks nice, hope you agree. The other photos did some practice on isolation using blur. Latter part is just shot improvements.

I guess doing these kind of treatments is nice if done rarely. Overdoing it for everyday shots will make it routine and boring already. Learned a few things whenever i do these practice sets, I guess the guys and gals with real indepth know of PS can really crank up nice work that you would not even know came from PS.

Your comments welcome. Find anything

Flower Fashion @Sofitel

The flowers cant walk, so models carry the flowers. Who do you look at? the flowers or the models? should you have used not so good looking flowers so people will look at the flowers instead of the models?

In the case of the flower fashion show at Sofitel, both models and flowers were a pleasant sight. The models knew how to pose the flowers so that it would become accent points and people would notice. Use of a single color for the model outfits was a good idea to reduce distraction.

Ooops, did not jot down the flower supplier and cloths designer (both very good actually). Posted primarily for the Makeup Forum to grab.

Fashion Week as Torture Test for 580 Ex!

Here Comes the Bride from Linoi

Well, half of them that is. Processed a batch of photos from the Linoi Wedding Gown fashion show at SMX last Saturday, May 17.

Normally, my shots would be washed out whenever there is a follow light being used in the stage lighting. Found out that its possible to shoot and get some good exposures with the right setting. With the strong follow light and white wedding gowns, was so happy that details could still be seen and not out of the camera's dynamic range.

Salute to Che Ramos for making all the great poses with the proper expressions. Am glad were going to be catching her during fashion week.

Bridal in IR

Been wanting to try shooting bridal fashion show for a while already and got the chance when quiet but busy Wedding Gown designer and maker Linoi held a one man fashion show at the SMX last May 17, 2008 Sat. This was part of the wedding expo and my first time to visit the SMX.

I also wanting to test shot the IR in preparation for Fashion week coming at 4th wk of May at the same venue. Some may find the photos boring with the almost BW results, i like them for the fact that IR was able to work in an indoor fashion show and the details of the dress were still clear (in most of them). Good first.

Was also good to shoot with Buddy Al and Ms. Jasmin. Baron cow souvenir shot at the last

had a few min to shoot the first batch of models ready for the show. What can you shoot in 5 mins? not too much but here goes.....

Thanks to Cacay and Liza for invite on this event. Special thanks to Liza for making the backstage arrangements.

Somehow Val, i think you will like the photos on 9962, 68, 73 and 77. Whoover designed those black two pc sure gets my thumbs up, sexy with class.

Nice colors from the collection fo Brumi (first 3 shots). So soft and colorful.

Cloths on Sheryl are also great, modern woman - power and femininity in one.

I also like the other designs, just dont know how to put into words.... ah, sometimes you wish people in your office wear this as their Mon to Thursday outfit.

Banana Republic GB5 Fashion Show

Robbi Carmona does great lighting! PMAP models, great crowd, well prepared stage and runway, fully tested lights and sound system, wine from Ralphs... what could go wrong? Nothing.

The opening night of Banana Republic went smooth and low profile VIPs were inside shopping all smiles. The photographers' podium was set much farther this time unfortunately since many people stood in front of the stage, so many heads blocking a nice shot of the final pose.

Now im excited to see how Robbi further improves his runway lighting.

Rhapsody in Blue - Ecole Ballet Highlights

taking some PP tricks from IR photography, i used PS to make the horrid red overcast colors of the festival mall lighting into a cool shade of blue. Kinda reminds me of the scifi lighting in them space ships (I think my age is showing).

Seemed like a nice time to try out selective color manipulation and some background blur.

Hope you like the peak moments of their pose, these girls are the more experienced ones and do great poses onstage during their ballet routine.

Canon 40D with 70-200 f2.8 IS lens. I think was handheld shooting. Flash on,

PLDT DSL vs. Globe DSL

PLDT myDSL has been having problems keeping their service online straight during the last few two weeks. This was not the fist time this happened so we sought to avoid dependence on the PLDT ISP.

Alternative was to get Globe DSL in the hope of adding another phone line to our allow more incoming calls during office time. Unfortunately, no phones being offered in our area yet but pure internet service.

Now that we have both DSL running, i wanted to see who was really faster? I had both connections go thru some ISP speed test with CNET, here are the results:

Globe DSL alone c/o hub: 267, 508, 277 = ave of 317
Globe direct to ISP provided modem/router: 463.8, 415, 313 - ave 397

PLDT DSL alone c/o hub: 354, 409, 379.5 = ave of 380
PLDT DSL direct from Linksys router: 379, 305, 407 = 363

Combined ISP using hub as mixer: 379, 410, 483 = 424

On average, both ISP would provide the similar speed but is quite far from the 512mb or 1mbs that they quote in their offer sheets...
