Blog EntryKuala Lumpur Trip: What to do?May 2, '07 5:53 AM
for everyone

A photographer friend is going to Kuala Lumpur for some vacation time and was asking me where he should go to feel the city and take nice photos.  His question got me thinking.... KL is so near, why haven't we considered going there for a vaction trip.  My friend will be in KL from Friday until Tuesday (May 4 to 8).

Hope the Multiply users in Malaysia and people who have gone to Malaysia can post pointers and suggestions on where to go in KL.  Your suggestions will serve as guide for me and my friend.  Other people may get interested to go after reading ur post or checking out the links i have listed here (where i got these photos).

From the looks of the sites, you could spend days going around the city still have plenty to shoot.  Such a diverse and colorful place.

petronas for sure, but don't bother paying to go up. it's 80+ floors but your ticket will only bring you somewhere in the 40th, not as spectacular view as i would have hoped but then again it was hazy. maybe a night visit would make it worth it.

there is also the radio tower of KL, which was the tallest in KL until the build petronas

they also have a little india town, but since i only had a P&S and my zeal for photography had not been that developed (?) or skill (?????) i didn't enjoy it too much...maybe next time around i will see things differently.

outside KL, there is putrajaya, a city made by mahathir for all government buildings, but very well built with touches of malay culture

street shooting in KL, well the roads are wide and trees are immense - there is after all a rainforest within the city.

shooting conditions - KL is hot and humid so be ready

they also have a huge mosque, something like a nationa mosque, or our version of cathedral...looked impressive from the outside - all white - but not sure if you can shoot or maybe they'll shoot you back with an ak-47

ha ha. Hochi, i think you were a travel commentator in your past life. Great guides and tip to save on the trip up the Towers. I guess its better to shoot at the Towers than be a part of the towers.

this is a bit late but we can use this for future reference...

Aquaria is nice... it has an aquarium that has a walkalator so u can go through it... it houses tiger sharks... sting rays, trebali etc... great way to spend some time during the day when its too hot outside... it is located at the kl convention center...

the skybridge of the petronas towers is open to the public... they give out free passes (although limited to around 1400 passes per day) so you can go up and have a better vantage point of the city... (another way to beat the heat)

some establishments are closed for one reason or the other on Mondays... including the skybridge of the Petronas tower and the educational theme park like establishment at the 4th floor of the KLCC

indeed sir hochi... thats why we opted to stay in the malls during the day and keep the foot tour for the late afternoon / evening...

there is a sorta theme park with a lake and a ferris wheel with glass flooring so you can see the bottom when you're up... interesting for me since i'm a tad bit intimidated to heights... warning to the ladies wearing skirts... don't stand!! lest the tourist find it more interesting to look up to take pictures :)

at Sha Alam a bit of a drive from the city... we saw the humongous blue mosque... took a few photos but made sure to stay far enough away from the effective range of an AK-47 ;)

exchange rate is about 3.4Rm to 1 US$ or about 15-16 PhP to 1Rm
There are alot more things to see and do in KL... you are limited to your creativity, interest and budget among others... for me its not so much as to the place... but the company... even the plain ol sight of a plane passing by your backyard can be priceless if shared with your kid, who points up, and sees it for the first time...
